Before we get into this drool worthy fudge, let’s talk about sweetened condensed milk alternatives.  A lot of dairy free alternatives are coconut based, and that’s great.  They have their place, and sometimes you can’t tell there’s coconut in the end result, but most times you can.  For this fudge I wanted an authentic and undetectable dairy free fudge.  And HOLY COW is that what I got with sweetened condensed oat milk!!

No coconut taste. No sign of this being dairy free and vegan. Just good old fashioned chocolate fudge.

I tested this recipe around Christmas and loved it so much that I gave this fudge with my Christmas cookies as gifts this year. Were any of the recipients dairy free? No. Did I tell them before they ate it that it was dairy free? No! Did anyone notice the difference? No.

The only feedback I got was how much better this fudge was than other fudge they’ve had. No weird aftertaste, and no bitter sweetness.

This recipe is easy and quick with no need for a candy thermometer. It keeps very well so it’s perfect to enjoy yourself and for gift giving!

Ingredients:

Dairy Free Chocolate Chips- I have used Trader Joe’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (now vegan and very affordable!) and Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Mega Chunks.  Both worked great!

Sweetened Condensed Oat Milk- I use Nature’s Charm Sweetened Condensed Oat Milk.  I believe it’s the only sweetened condensed oat milk on the market! It’s a total game changer. Side note: this sweetened condensed oat milk is not labeled as gluten free. Oats are naturally gluten free (although some celiacs may not be able to have grains such as oats), but cross contamination is prevalent in oats. I was able to eat this without any problems, but I can only speak for myself. If need be, swap out for sweetened condensed coconut milk.

Dairy Free Butter- I use and love Country Crock’s plant based butter. Amazing taste even when melted, and it functions just like normal butter.

Vanilla Extract adds the perfect finishing touch to this fudge; do not omit.
