This Reindeer Chow is the perfect, festive snack during the Christmas season. Filled with Chex mix, popcorn, pretzels, peanuts and fun, Christmas sprinkles that are tossed and coated in white chocolate. Easily customizable, this Reindeer Chow can easily be made gluten free, dairy free and vegan.
How cute and adorable is this Reindeer Chow?!
Also known as puppy chow, muddy buddies, monkey munch, muddy munch, etc.
Whatever you call it, this homemade Christmas candy is perfect for everyone of all ages.
Traditional puppy chow typically has peanut butter and some kind of chocolate, but this reindeer chow just has good ole white chocolate. That way you can put crushed candy canes, crushed Andy mints, peppermint extract…really anything you want!
Also instead of coating in powdered sugar, we’re leaving just the white chocolate that way there are larger chunks. Just like granola- the larger the chunks the better!
Happy baking!

Reasons to love Reindeer Chow:
- Quick and easy to make
- Allergy friendly
- Perfect treat for all ages
- Add-ins and flavors are customizable
- Kid friendly- my 4.5 year old nephew helped me make it!
Ingredients in Gluten Free Reindeer Chow:
Chex Mix- if you are gluten free, make sure your Chex mix is certified gluten free.
Popcorn- you can use your favorite popcorn. I used fresh popped popcorn that I popped with this popcorn maker. I haven’t tried, but kettle corn or sweet and salty popcorn could also work.
Pretzels– use gluten free if needed. You can use twists or sticks.
Peanuts- you can use salted or unsalted. If you have a peanut allergy, omit.
Christmas Sprinkles
White Chocolate– I used dairy free white chocolate chips to keep the Reindeer Chow dairy free.
Coconut Oil– to help smooth out the white chocolate. Use naturally refined coconut oil for no coconut taste or smell.
Tools needed to make Reindeer Chow:
- Measuring cups
- Large bowl
- Wooden spoon or rubber spatula
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper sheets
How to make Gluten Free Reindeer Chow:
Add the Chex mix, popcorn, pretzels, and peanuts to a large bowl.
Melt the white chocolate and coconut oil by your preferred method.
Pour the white chocolate over the mix, and stir together, making sure to coat all the pieces.
Fold in sprinkles and any other add in’s you’d like.
Spread onto a parchment lined baking sheet and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or until set.
Break into pieces and enjoy!
Tips for the best Reindeer Chow:
- The add ins are super customizable and can really be whatever you have on hand. I made one with Chex mix, rice crispies, peanuts, and sliced almonds because it’s what I had on hand, and it still came out delicious!
- Coat everything but chocolate or candy add-ins first and then fold in the chocolate or sprinkles. This way nothing melts from the warm white chocolate and the colors don’t spread or run from the sprinkles or m&m’s.
How to store leftover Reindeer Chow:
This chow can be store in an airtight container for up to a week (but it’ll get eaten up before then haha!).
