Earlier this week I went strawberry picking and picked so many fresh and ripe strawberries. You can’t beat the taste of fresh-picked strawberries, or the price!

These strawberries don’t have all the preservatives on them like the store bought ones, so they don’t last as long in the fridge. But I’ll take that over all the preservatives and chemicals that are sprayed on other strawberries any day.

The first thing I wanted to make with my strawberries was jam. I wanted a simple, easy and natural strawberry jam recipe, and boy did it come out delicious! I didn’t use pectin as I didn’t want to use any additives, and the jam jelled up nicely as it cooled due to the lemon juice.

What to put this Fresh Strawberry Jam on:

  • This strawberry jam would be heavenly on these Gluten Free Bagels. Top them with cream cheese or butter, and then some strawberry jam and you’ve got yourself a yummy breakfast!
  • Toast topped with some butter and this jam would be an easy and quick summer breakfast.
  • Pancakes and waffles! Replace the maple syrup drizzle on these Banana Stuffed Pancake Bites or these Chunky Monkey Waffles with this Strawberry Jam.

Ingredients in Strawberry Jam:

Fresh Strawberries- I used fresh picked strawberries that I had picked myself, but you can use any fresh strawberries. Make sure you wash them real well. My new favorite way to wash any berries is to soak them in warm water with a teaspoon of salt for 5 minutes. Then drain and rinse with cold water for a minute. Seriously, the amount of dirt at the bottom of the bowl is disgusting, but also satisfying knowing you reallllly washed your strawberries. They are also noticeably brighter and more vibrant in color!

Maple Syrup- the amount is completely optional and you can adjust to your personal preference. If your strawberries are super sweet, then you might not need any. If you want to add a bit more of sweetness, start off with 1 Tablespoon and go up to 4. Just make sure you stir it in each time and then taste before you add more.

Lemon Juice- our natural preservative in this strawberry jam!

Tools needed to make Fresh Strawberry Jam:

  • Cutting board- these bamboo cutting boards are my absolute favorite right now. They so easy to clean and don’t require any special minerals or oils.
  • Pairing knife
  • 3 qt non-stick sauce pan– this is the exact set and pan I used. The leftover residue from the jam came off so quickly and easily with just water, soap and a soft sponge. That’s it! No need to soak it!
  • Silicone spatula
  • Mason jars- I used these 8 oz ones and they were the perfect size.

How to make this Strawberry Jam recipe:

Prep the strawberries: Prep the strawberries by washing them, de-stemming them and then cutting them into smaller pieces (either half or quarters depending on the size of the strawberry).

Make the jam: Place the strawberries in the sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often. Once the strawberries are heated through and have softened, gently mash with the spatula to your preferred consistency. Pour into a mason jar and leave the lid off. Let come to room temperature and then seal the jar and store in the fridge.

This jam will last up to 2 weeks in a sealed mason jar in the fridge (although I bet it won’t last that long!).
